Hi, I’m Kerrin Revell, welcome to my journey of thought, which today is about a school play called ‘Game On’.
In May I was approached by a school to write and direct a play for them… well, actually that’s not entirely true. What really happened is the principal asked my wife if I would do it and she told the principal that I would. So, then I had to.
We had a meeting with the principal a few weeks later and discussed what she was looking for and what we could potentially do. The basic plan was a play that could involve the entire school and had some humour in it. I was a bit worried about writing a play that could include the entire school but I thought, game on! (Pun most definitely intended.)
I had many ideas for a story (and one that could incorporate an entire school) but I let them all fight it out inside my brain before I declared a winner.
The idea that was victorious was what became ‘Game On’. The story revolves around a brother and sister who get magically transported inside their parent’s old gaming system and have to navigate through many games. They can only rely on each other and have to learn how to work as a team or be stuck there forever.
I am really happy with how it has come out and I love the fact that the actors will be pretending to be in a digital world, on a very analogue stage. I also enjoyed parodying some of my favourite old video games.
The next step is having the kids audition, which is very exciting and will be a lot of fun. I will keep you updated as things progress.
